Planning and Research 5: Movie Opening 4; The Day After Tomorrow

The day after tomorrow is a disaster movie, but I have never forgotten the opening scene from this movie. I don't know if it was because of its genre and what appeals to me, or whether it is just a really good opening. I know that I can recall it practically shot for shot and have not really seen it that many times. I have chosen to include this movie in my research to see if there are any specific shots that I can replicate and make my own movie opening more interesting and memorable.

Planning and Research 4: Movie Opening 3; Saving Private Ryan

Planning and Research 3: Movie Opening 2; Anchorman

Again I have chosen a comedy. This movie stars Ron Burgundy (Will Ferrell) and tells the story of how men rule the media world and how things are upset when a woman comes into play. The opening sequence sets the scene at the beginning of the movie, and the rest of the tale is told based on these protocols.

Planning and Research 2: Movie Opening 1; The Hangover

The Hangover is primarily a comedy, however there are some scenes in which a more sombre mood is created. This movie opens on a more sombre mood, introducing various characters and the situation they are in, it then goes on to tell the story of how the situation got to the state it is now in.

Planning and Research 1: Introduction

This is the first section of my AS Media Studies blog. It will consist mainly of research into movie opening sequences and into how different genres are shot, including the types of shot, the style of editing, editing techniques and many more aspects that film openings consist of. I will also be doing tasks in-class and out of class to try out techniques that I have learned during the course, and will hope to use when I shoot my own movie opening after my planning and research has been completed.
